WhenIfirstsetfootonAmericansoilwiththedreamofstudyinginanAmericanelementary-school,awholenewworldunfoldedbeforeme.

ThecampusoftheAmericanelementaryschoolwaslikeavibrantwonderland.Colorfulmuralsdecoratedthewallsoftheteachingbuildings,andtherewerevariousrecreationalfacilitiessuchasswings,slides,andsandpitsintheplayground.Thefirst-dayofschoolwasbothexcitingandnerve-wracking.

IrememberwalkingintomyclassroomandseeingdesksarrangedinsmallgroupsinsteadofthetraditionalrowsIwasusedtoinmyhomecountry.Theteacher,awarm-heartedwomanwithabigsmile,greetedmeandintroducedmetomynewclassmates.Thechildrenhereweresofriendlyandcurious.Theyaskedmeaboutmyhometown,myhobbies,andwhatlifewaslikeinmycountry.

TheteachingmethodsinAmericanelementaryschoolwerealsoquitedifferent.Inclass,theteacherencouragedustoexpressourownopinionsfreely.Wehadgroupdiscussions,hands-onexperiments,andprojects.Forexample,inascienceclass,weweredividedintogroupstoplantbeansandobservetheirgrowthprocess.Eachgrouphadtorecordthechangeseverydayandthenpresentourfindingsinfrontofthewholeclass.Thisnotonlyenhancedmypracticalabilitybutalsoimprovedmyteamworkandcommunicationskills.

Outsideoftheclassroom,therewereawidevarietyofextracurricularactivities.Ijoinedtheartclub,whereIcouldcreatepaintingsandhandicraftswithotherstudentswhosharedthesameinterest.Therewerealsosportsteamslikethesoccerteamandthebasketballteam.Iwasamazedbytheenthusiasmandenergyofthestudentsduringtheseactivities.

LivinginAmericaalsogavemetheopportunitytoexperiencedifferentcultures.Imadefriendswithchildrenfromvariousethnicbackgrounds,andwesharedourtraditionalfestivalsandcuisines.IlearnedaboutThanksgiving,wherefamiliesgettogethertogivethanksandenjoyabigfeast,andIalsointroducedmyclassmatestosomeofthetraditionalChinesefestivalsliketheSpringFestival.

StudyinginanAmericanelementaryschoolhasbeenaneye-openingexperience.Ithasbroadenedmyhorizons,improvedmylanguageskills,andtaughtmetheimportanceofdiversityandinclusion.Everydayisanewadventure,filledwithlearningandgrowth,andIamlookingforwardtomorewonderfulmemoriesinthisforeignland.
