Oneofthemostremarkabledifferenceswastheteachingmethod.IntheUKprimaryschools,therewasastrongemphasisonhands-onlearningandindependentthinking.Insteadofjustsittingatdesksandlisteningtotheteachertalkforlongperiods,wewereencouragedtoparticipateingroupactivities,askquestions,andexploretopicsonourown.Forexample,inascienceclass,weweregiventhetaskofbuildingasimplewater-filtrationsystemusingeverydaymaterials.ItwasachallengingbutfunexperiencethatmademerealizehowinterestinglearningcouldbewhenIwasactivelyinvolved.

Makingfriendsalsohaditsownsetofchallengesandjoys.Atfirst,thelanguagebarrierwasabitofahindrance.AlthoughIhadlearnedsomeEnglishinChina,communicatingfreelywithnative-English-speakingchildrenwasnoteasy.Butgradually,throughsharedplaytimeintheschoolyard,groupprojects,andsimpleconversations,Istartedtomakefriends.Weplayedfootballtogether,sharedourfavoritesnacks,andtoldeachotherstoriesaboutourdifferentlives.ThesenewfriendshipsnotonlyhelpedmeimprovemyEnglishbutalsomademefeellesslonelyinthisforeignland.

LivingintheUKalsoexposedmetoarichanddiverseculture.Ivisitedlocalmuseumsandartgalleries,whereIlearnedaboutBritishhistory,fromtheancientRomanstothemodern-daymonarchy.IparticipatedintraditionalfestivalslikeChristmasandEaster,experiencingtheuniquecustomsandcelebrations.TheChristmasparadeswiththeircolorfulfloatsandtheEasteregg-huntsinthelocalparkswerememoriesthatIwouldcherishforever.
