Comingfromadifferenteducationalsystem,thetransitionhasbeenbothchallengingandrewarding.Inmyhomecountry,theeducationoftenemphasizesrotelearningandstrictadherencetoasetcurriculum.However,intheUS,Iamimmediatelystruckbytheemphasisoncriticalthinking,independentresearch,andclassparticipation.Professorshereencouragestudentstoquestioneverything,toengageinin-depthdiscussions,andtoexploretopicsfrommultipleperspectives.

ThecampuslifeintheUSisalsoafar-cryfromwhatIamusedto.Thelargeandvibrantcampusesarelikesmallcitiesinthemselves,withaplethoraofstudentorganizations,sportsevents,andculturalactivities.Itisnotjustaboutattendingclasses;itisaboutbeingpartofacommunitythatvaluesholisticdevelopment.Ihavejoinedafewstudentclubsrelatedtomyacademicinterestsandalsosomethatfocusonculturalexchange.Throughtheseactivities,Ihavemadefriendsfromallovertheworld,eachbringingwiththemtheiruniquestories,traditions,andwaysofthinking.

Theculturaldifferences,whilesometimesasourceofconfusion,havealsobeenagreatsourceoflearning.Fromthewaypeoplegreeteachothertothedifferentsocialnorms,everydayisanopportunitytoexpandmyculturalhorizons.Foodisanotheraspectwherethedifferenceisquitepronounced.Americancuisine,withitswidevarietyoffast-foodoptionsandregionalspecialties,hasbeenaninterestingdiscovery.

Academically,Iamtakingcoursesthatarenotonlychallengingbutalsohighlyrelevanttomyfuturecareergoals.Theresearchopportunitiesavailabletoundergraduatestudentsherearetrulyremarkable.Iamcurrentlyworkingonaresearchprojectundertheguidanceofawell-knownprofessorinmyfield.Thishands-onexperienceisnotonlyenhancingmyknowledgebutalsodevelopingmyskillsindatacollection,analysis,andpresentation.

Despitethemanywonderfulaspectsofmystudyabroadexperience,therearealsomomentsofhomesickness.Missingmyfamilyandoldfriendsisinevitable,butIhavefoundsolaceinthenewrelationshipsIambuildinghere.Videocallsandsocialmediahelpbridgethedistance,butthereisstillasenseoflongingforthefamiliar.

Overall,myjunior-yearstudyintheUSisatransformativejourney.Itisatimeofgrowth,bothacademicallyandpersonally.Iamconstantlypushedoutofmycomfortzone,whichisexactlywhatIneedtobecomeamorewell-roundedandglobally-awareindividual.Ilookforwardtomakingthemostoftheremainingtimehere,embracingeverychallengeandopportunitythatcomesmyway.
